Watch the 7 News segment

Emerald Laser was featured on Channel 7. Two minutes on what the device does, how a treatment runs, and why clinics are adding it.

Sound on.

Why clinics are asking about Emerald right now

Three things have changed in the last couple of years, and together they've made this device a very different conversation from the fat freezing decision most clinics made a decade ago.

Higher BMI patients have had few options

Most non-invasive body devices are indicated for lower BMI patients and treat one pocket at a time. Emerald is cleared for overall body circumference reduction in patients with a BMI up to 40. That's a cohort most clinics currently have to turn away.

GLP-1 patients want the next step

Patients losing weight on GLP-1 medication are walking into clinics with stubborn areas and a strong motivation to finish the job. They already trust a clinical setting and they're used to paying for results. Very few clinics have a device that fits them.

It runs without someone in the room

Position the patient, start the 30 minute program and your practitioner is free for the next consult. Compare that with a hands-on treatment that ties up a staff member for an hour, and the economics look very different.

What the trial data shows

Emerald's clearance for the 30 to 40 BMI range rests on a randomised, double-blind, sham-controlled trial published in Photomedicine and Laser Surgery. Participants kept their normal diet and exercise for the whole study.

Mean reduction in combined hip, waist and upper abdomen circumference after 4 weeks

Emerald Laser (n=28)10.52 cm
Sham treatment (n=25)1.80 cm

Twelve 30 minute treatments over four weeks, three per week. p < 0.0001 vs baseline.

Participants who reached the 7.2 cm success threshold

Emerald Laser71%
Sham treatment12%

Among those who reached the threshold, the mean total reduction two weeks after the final treatment was 15.21 cm.

What that means for a clinic

The average patient in the trial lost around 10.5 cm across three measurement sites in a month, with no change to what they ate or how they exercised. No adverse events were reported. That is the kind of before and after a patient can see on a tape measure, and it's why Emerald clinics tend to pair the device with a Styku 3D scan for baseline and progress imaging.

How it works in your treatment room

Emerald uses ten 532 nm green laser diodes to open temporary pores in fat cells so they release their contents into the interstitial space. The lymphatic system clears it from there. The cells stay intact, which is the key difference from technologies that freeze or heat fat to kill it.

  1. Consult and measure

Take baseline circumference measurements. Clinics running a Styku 3D scanner capture a full body scan in under a minute.

  2. Position the patient

The patient lies on the bed and the laser arms are positioned over the treatment area. Contact-free, so nothing is strapped on and nothing gets cold or hot.

  3. Run the 30 minute program

Start the treatment and leave the room. There's no handpiece to move and no one needs to stay with the patient.

  4. Repeat one to three times a week

Most patients complete six or more sessions. Many clinics add a Ballancer Pro lymphatic drainage session straight after to help the body clear the released fat.

Run your own numbers

Drag the sliders to match your clinic. Figures are GST exclusive and assume a consumable credit of roughly $10 per treatment. Packages, finance and current offers are different for every clinic, so we cover those on the call. This is a guide only; run the final numbers past your accountant.

One patient on a six session course, twice a week, is two treatments a week. Six active patients is twelve.

Australian clinics typically sell Emerald as a course. Enter your per-session equivalent.

Most patients complete six or more. Clinics usually sell the course up front.

Estimates exclude rent, staff, marketing, finance costs and tax. Treatment pricing is your decision. Hours saved compares a 30 minute unattended session with a 30 minute hands-on treatment; you'll still need staff for set up and consults. Consult your accountant on asset timing and deductions.

Who you'll speak with

Ryan Towart, InnovaMed Aesthetics. Ryan works across marketing and clinic partnerships and is usually the first person you'll talk to about where Emerald fits in your service menu and how to launch it.

Jamie Powell, Sales Manager ANZ. Jamie has placed Emerald in clinics across Australia and New Zealand and can talk pricing, finance and what a realistic first year looks like.

Ruchika Mitter, Clinical Sales Consultant. Ruchika covers protocols, patient selection and how the device sits alongside GLP-1 patients and other treatments you already offer.

Who this is for

Cosmetic and aesthetic clinics, cosmetic doctors and nurses, GPs running weight management clinics, medispas, and allied health or wellness practices adding a body contouring service. If you treat patients who've been told they're outside the BMI range for other devices, it's worth 10 minutes.

What happens after you book

You'll get a confirmation email with the call details. If you chose Zoom or Teams, the link is in the invite. Before the call we'll look at your website and any devices you've listed, so we're not wasting your 10 minutes on questions we could have answered ourselves.

If you'd rather read first, the clinician brochure and the full 2017 trial paper are yours for the asking. Mention it in the notes.

Questions clinics usually ask

Is Emerald TGA listed?
Yes. Emerald is TGA listed and FDA cleared for overall body circumference reduction, including the 30 to 40 BMI range. It's the only low level laser with that clearance.
Who can run the treatments?
Trained staff. The treatment itself is unattended, so once your team is trained on set up and patient positioning they can run a full day of sessions without a clinician in the room. Training is included with every device, and we support your team afterwards.
What are the running costs?
Treatments use a credit system at roughly $10 per treatment. There are no cartridges, tips, gels or applicator pads to buy. We'll show you the exact model on the call so you can price your courses properly.
Does it work for patients on GLP-1 medication?
Many clinics position Emerald for patients on, or coming off, weight loss medication who want to address stubborn areas. Suitability is a clinical decision for each patient, and we'll walk you through the current guidance and contraindications on the call.
What space and power does it need?
A standard treatment room with a bed and a regular power point. There's no plumbing, no extraction and no special cooling. We'll confirm exact dimensions and clearances for your room during the call.
How is it different from fat freezing?
Fat freezing destroys fat cells in one localised pocket by cooling them. Emerald doesn't destroy anything. The 532 nm laser opens temporary pores in the fat cell so it releases its contents, which the lymphatic system then clears. That's why it can treat overall circumference rather than one pocket, why there's no bruising or numbness, and why it's cleared for a much higher BMI range.
Is finance available?
Yes. We work with equipment finance and lease providers who understand aesthetic clinics. Bring your numbers to the call and we'll show you what a monthly figure looks like against the revenue calculator above. Timing purchases around end of financial year can have tax implications, so check with your accountant.
